Week 3 Part B: Developing a Brand
The development of a brand requires key elements, especially if you want your brand to stand out. On top of making a good first impression on the audience, your business has to be solid all the way through with very minor faults, otherwise, you might lose interest or trust from potential clients and business partners. The article on how to build a brand mentions different key points needed to uphold that image of being a strong, credible, and trustworthy business. I personally don't have a business but I use existing platforms to outsource my products and services which works just as well. Owning a business for what I’m doing, music seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion. It would be much easier to take off on social media platforms rather than making my own business or website. But overall, you need to have a strong image, consistency, engagement along with many factors to have a booming business.
Consistency is one of the key factors when it comes to establishing a brand. If a business gives off a communicative and respective vibe you would expect that from that point forward. If there was a flip of any kind and the brand’s image no longer represented that communicative nature then the audience would lose interest quickly. It’s the exact same with the example given in the article about meeting someone at a party than seeing how their personality changes when you see them at a later time. Along with being consistent builds trust which is also vital for establishing a business.
If I were to make my own business it would be after I created a name for myself on different media platforms in order to build up trust and credibility. Especially when it comes to music, it’s all about being on platforms and utilizing them properly to gain attention. My brand would be clean and a bit simplistic, there would be more images and other creative aspects involved rather than tons of text. For my audience, it might seem too boring if they see tons of paragraphs, they’d wanna get straight to the point. Visuals always play a role especially when it comes to the creative side.
For fonts, colors and themes I'd choose something that relaxing on the eyes, kind of like my blog. For me personally, I get uncomfortable when I see something that’s too bright and it makes me feel unsettled. On the contrary, seeing something that's relaxing and easy on the eyes will most likely keep me attracted and I won’t be in a rush to move on. I’d focus on a theme that I’m comfortable with and can maximize the potential on instead of forcing myself to change my style. People would notice the lack of effort and I wouldn’t feel as comfortable trying for something I have no confidence in.
For my logo, it’d be something simple as well. Maybe somehow incorporate my initials with something related to music. Whether it’d be an instrument, music note, or something so people could look at the logo and know that it’s pertaining to the music industry. I would only advertise my brand on social media. Business cards are cool and all but you’re more likely to connect with more people at a faster rate than you would put up a poster and handing out business cards. It saves time and you can even filter to find the exact audience you need to support your business.
