Week 8 Part A: How to Expand Your Reach on Instagram by Using Hashtags

For my business, visual media does serve much of a purpose. Sure it’s a nice touch but it doesn’t relate to my business. In terms of social media, Instagram could be effective with whatever you do. It’s a versatile platform and multiple types of businesses can be on it all for different purposes too. Wrap Records is the first business I stumbled upon that is related to my business. Instagram is somewhat effective on their page, there is no consistency in terms of support from their followers it’s all hit or miss. They don’t use hashtags in any of their posts and they currently have 200,000 followers. Their page is quite active and the amount of comments and likes they receive depends on who the artist is featured within that certain post. For the most part, they received a few thousand likes and about 50 comments on average. The majority of the support goes to the artist instead of the label as well.

Atlantic Records is a more popular label and they have signed a few big artists such as Aretha Franklin, Notorious B.I.G, NBA Youngboy, and others. They have around 800,000 followers now and post multiple times a day. Content that features the popular or iconic artist usually gets more support and attention than the other posts. They average a bit more than Wrap Records because they are bigger and well known but their averages aren’t up by a lot.  They also don’t use hashtags on their posts, their content spreads through the other artists or supporters who reshare their posts to their own pages. They don’t receive as many comments as you’d think they would and there isn't much interaction with the supporters in the comments either.

NinjaTune is an independent record label that was created in the 1990s, they have signed a variety of different artists with varying genres and popularity. They post a lot of creative imagery on their Instagram page which also matches the aesthetic of the artists they have signed. They post a few times a week and don’t often interact with their supporters which have been the same for the other labels as well. Brownswood is another label but this one is local, based in Los Angeles, and features a lot of black artists. They currently have 40,000 followers and they range around a few hundred likes on their posts and a few comments as well. Most of their artists are involved with Jazz music in some form and they have nice artwork on their Instagram page which their followers seem to enjoy. For the business I'm involved in I don’t think visual media plays a big role in helping me grow and develop, it’s a nice touch but doesn’t help whatsoever.
